Peking University study team visits Policy Research Institute

A 12 member team from the School of Foreign Languages, Peking University, China, visited Policy Research Institute (PRI) for a short interaction among research team. The team was led by Prof. Dr. Ning Qi, Vice President of Peking University. The main purpose of the visit interaction was to exchange institutional overviews and explore opportunities for cooperation and collaboration between PRI and Peking University.

The interaction session was facilitated by Dr. Khaga Nath Adhikari, Senior Research Fellow and Head of the Center for Foreign and Strategic Affairs Policy of the PRI. All the PRI officials introduced themselves and extended a warm welcome to the visiting team.

Prof. Dr. Lekhnath Sharma, Executive Chairperson of PRI, warmly welcomed the Chinese delegation. In his welcome remarks, Prof. Dr. Sharma highlighted potential areas for collaboration between the PRI and the Peking University, including,

• Capacity development of think tanks through University programmes, study visits, seminars, trainings, and collaborative research
• Leveraging some cutting-edge technology that enhance policy making and evidence-based policy decisions
• Joint research on issues related to bilateral and multilateral relations

He emphasized PRI's willingness to learn from China’s policy experiences and expressed his belief that such collaboration would contribute to mutual development and harmony.

Prof. Dr. Ning Qi thanked the PRI for the warm reception and provided a brief overview of Peking University. She elaborated on the objectives of their South Asia visit, particularly their ongoing research on cooperation between China and South Asian countries during the period of turbulence. Prof. Dr. Ning acknowledged the strong and enduring relationship between China and Nepal and expressed interest in identifying actionable avenues for future collaboration.

Dr. Khaga Nath Adhikari made a concise presentation about PRI, detailing its objectives, organizational structure, research focus, and policy-level contributions. He further outlined existing cooperation efforts, including PRI’s research and a recent joint seminar and Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Institute of International Strategy of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (NIIS CASS).

The visit concluded with a two-way interaction between PRI officials and the Peking University delegation, where discussions focused on current activities and future plans for joint research. Prof. Dr. Sharma reiterated PRI’s commitment to advancing these discussions and translating them into meaningful collaboration aimed at strengthening policy research and promoting evidence-based and informed decision-making.
